Mr. Njile George Mbanda
Secretary, ASARECA General Assembly Business Committee
Mr. Njile George Mbanda was elected the Secretary of ASARECA Business Committee during the Committee’s meeting in Entebbe, Uganda in May 2023. He qualifies for the position as a member of the five-person ASARECA Business Committee for Cameron. As the President of the Platform of Local Flour Promoters in Cameroon (PROFALCAM) in Yaoundé, Cameroon, he was appointed to the national level Business Committee as a representative of farmers’ organizations. With more than 40 years of experience in the agricultural sector, George Mbanda has had a strong impact on mainly the cassava value chain. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Rural Sociology and History at the University of Yaoundé, after which he undertook specialized studies for two years in Development and Management of Agro-industry Plantations. He is fondly referred to as the man of the field, as he is a seasoned producer of local flours. He is also well known as a formidable defender of producer’s rights and an advocate for good governance. This has earned him membership of numerous bodies where he served as: President of Cameroon’s Plateforme Interprofession de la Chaine de Valeur Manioc; Chairman of the Plateforme des Multi-Acteurs de la Chaine de Valeur Manioc; trainer of trainers in Agricultural Innovation Systems (AIS). In 2016, with support from the South West Development Authority (SOWEDA), he championed the distribution of over 500,000 certified improved cassava cuttings free of charge to farmers in the South West and Littoral regions. The initiative was subsequently rolled out nationwide, earning him Government commendation.
