Dr. Yona Baguma
Chairman Audit and Risk Management Committee
Dr. Yona Baguma is the Director General of the National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO), Uganda. He serves the ASARECA Board of Directors and the Chairman, Audit and Risk Management Committee. Until his appointment as Director General, he served as Deputy Director General Research Coordination, NARO. He holds a PhD in Molecular Biology from the Swedish University for Agricultural Sciences, a Master’s degree in Agriculture from Makerere University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture from the same university. Dr. Baguma is a distinguished scientist with over 30 years’ experience as a researcher and leader, rising through the ranks starting as a Research Officer in NARO. He currently serves on a number of national, regional and global Boards. Dr. Baguma is an accomplished innovative, ethical, transformative leader and has a long-standing interest in the broader agricultural sub-sector. He has represented NARO in various fora and helped initiate innovative transformative approaches to agricultural research for impact. He has served as the Chairman for the National Biosafety Committee and Chairperson Makerere University Regional Centre for Crop Improvement. Dr Baguma brings on board a wide range of skills relevant to the mission and mandate of the repositioned ASARECA.
