Dr. Vicky Ruganzu
National Focal Person for ASARECA in Rwanda
Dr. Vicky Ruganzu, is currently the Coordinator of Research and Extension in Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Board (RAB). This entails coordinating Integrated Soil Fertility Management initiatives focusing on research and technology transfer. Prior to this portfolio, he held various roles and responsibilities in RAB, including Acting Deputy Director General in charge of Research, Director of Natural Resources Management, and Coordinator of the Rwanda Soil Health Consortium. He holds a PhD from the University of Liege- Gembloux, Agro-biotec in Belgium in Agronomic Sciences and Biological Engineering with specialization in Soil Sciences and Natural Resources Management as well as a Master’s degree in the same field. Dr. Ruganzu has over 23 year’s working experience in agricultural research and technology transfer, agricultural development, project development and management, consultancy works, and community services delivery. He is also a member of various initiatives, including the: Agricultural Sector Working Group; Advisory Council for Agro-Chemicals in Rwanda; Technical Advisory Committee for Landscape Restoration and Integrated Water Resources Management; Long-term Assistance and Services for Research Partners for University-Led Solutions Engine; Capacity Building Committee of RAB; and Steering Committee of Nile Basin Initiative in Rwanda. Dr. Ruganzu was also the Focal Person of the former Soil and Water Management Research Network of ASARECA, member of former ECABREN network, and a member of the Consortium for Improving Agricultural-based Livelihoods in Central Africa.
