Dr. Severin Nijimbere
Vice- Chairperson, ASARECA General Assembly Business Committee
Dr. Severin Nijimbire was elected the Vice-Chairperson of the ASARECA General Assembly Business Committee during the Business Committee meeting in Entebbe, Uganda in May 2023. He qualifies for the position as a member of the five-person ASARECA Business Committee for Burundi. As the Dean of the Faculty of Agronomy and Bio-Engineering at the University of Burundi, he was appointed to the national level Business Committee as a representative of Institutions of Higher learning. Prof Nijimbire holds a PhD in Agricultural Sciences and Bio-Engineering, from Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgium. His research area of interest is Physico-chemistry of Soils and Rehabilitation of Degraded Soils. Prof Séverin Nijimbere is currently involved in various participatory research activities on soil degradation diagnosis and remedial methods, landscape restoration, climate change resilience and soil-plant relationships, as well as in building the capacity of farmer organizations to manage soil resources.
