Dr. George Tokporo Tadu

George Tokporo Tadu is the Director General of Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS), Republic of South Sudan. He has a PhD in Horticulture (Plant Tissue culture) from National Institute for Promotion of Horticultural Exports, University of Gezira,Wad Medani, Sudan. He has worked as an Agricultural Research Assistant with hands on experience in Biotechnology, in vitro propagation and field testing of banana and Irish potato. He has also worked as a Research Scientist, Agricultural Research Corporation, Sudan. During the period 1999-2004, he had the opportunity to conduct participatory variety selection trials in El Gezira Scheme (Sudan) in farmers’ field schools. Previously served as the representative of the Ministry of Agriculture in the National Council for Coordination of Southern Sudan States Affairs in the Federal Government of Khartoum (2000-2005). He is also an experienced and skillful on-station and on-farm research manager, who has worked as a principal investigator in donor-funded research projects including AGRA, the World Bank, and FAO where he adapted and released ten varieties of cassava and sweet potato. Tadu has mastered both leadership and managerial skills, which enabled him to successfully lead and manage root/tuber and horticultural crops research program, since 2012.
