Dr. Evans D. Ilatsia
National Focal Person for ASARECA in Kenya
Dr. Evans Ilatsia is currently the Deputy Director General—Livestock, Kenya Agriculture and Livestock Research Organisation (KALRO). He is also the National Focal Person for ASARECA in Kenya, as well as a Board Member of the Kenya Animal Genetics Resource Centre (KAGRC), a state corporation in the Ministry of Agriculture. Before appointment as Deputy Director General, Dr. Ilatsia, a senior scientist in animal breeding and genetics, was the Director of KALRO, Naivasha, the fulcrum of the regional Livestock Centre of Excellence. He has over 18 years working experience in livestock research where he has been involved in 27 research and development projects, out of which, he has been a Principle Investigator and lead scientist in 20 of them. Over 8 years of his career have been in senior management. Projects under Dr. Ilatsia have involved multidisciplinary scientists/partners locally and internationally in various livestock value chains, including indigenous chicken, dairy cattle, pigs and dairy goat. Dr. Ilatsia holds a Doctorate in animal genetics and breeding from the University of Hohenheim, Germany, a Master of Science in Animal Production (Genetics and Breeding), and a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural extension. He was earlier on awarded the prestigious DAAD scholarship to undertake his doctoral studies in Germany. He has co-authored over 100 research publications.
