SROs to play key role in African Agricultural Research Programme

ASARECA and sister sub-regional organisations have shared priority areas that were identified in their medium term plans (MTOPs) to inform the development of the African Agricultural Research Programme (AARP).  AARP is mooted to develop new technologies, innovations and management practices. The African Development Bank (AfDB) recently requested FARA to take leadership in this designing this programme to complement the TAAT (Technologies for African Agriculture Transformation (TAAT) programme, which will be funded by the AfDB in 2017. Science for Agriculture Consortium (S4AC) articulates new direction for Africa

The much anticipated meeting of the founding partners of the Science for Agriculture Consortium (S4AC) was successfully held at the World Bank Group Main Complex in Washington DC from September 19 to 30th. The write-shop was facilitated by the World Bank, which has since initiation keenly supported the initiative. The 24th ASARECA Board of Directors meeting will be held on 5th-6th December 2016. This particular BOD will discuss draft new ASARECA repositioning Strategy and Results Framework (A-SRF), which was developed to keep ASARECA ahead of times and to conform to the new and evolving institutional and policy reforms in the sub-region.

ASARECA will participate in the National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO) and Makerere University (MAK) joint Agricultural dissemination conference, scheduled for 21-24th November 2016 at the Speke Resort Munyonyo, in Kampala.  The aim of the conference is to bring together stakeholders to discuss opportunities and challenges in the agricultural sector and hence contribute to realization of sustainable development goals. The theme of the conference is “Agricultural Innovation for social economic transformation”. (MLN) Diagnostics and Management Project will hold its first Annual Review and Planning Meeting on October 18-19, 2016 at ICRAF campus, Nairobi, Kenya.

The USAID funded maize lethal necrosis virus (MLN) Diagnostics and Management Project will hold its first Annual Review and Planning Meeting on October 18-19, 2016 at ICRAF campus, Nairobi, Kenya.  The project, which has been running for over one year, was meant to develop diagnostic tools for MLN surveillance. The workshop will review progress achieved so far.  The meeting will also hold face -to-face discussions on the MLN Phytosanitary Community of Practice (CoP). It will be attended by CIMMYT, ASARECA and Focal persons from National Agricultural Research Institutes among others.
