INTRODUCTION

The Association for Strengthening Agricultural Research in Eastern and Central Africa (ASARECA) is a non-political and non-profit making organization of the National Agricultural Research Institutes (NARIs) of eleven (11) countries: Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Rwanda, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda. Over the years, ASARECA has invested considerably in stimulating the transformation of the agricultural sector to improve livelihoods of communities, farmers, pastoralists, and fisher folks among others in the Eastern and Central Africa (ECA) Sub-region. By pursuance of its Mission, of enhancing regional collective action in agricultural research for development, extension, training and education so as to promote economic growth, poverty reduction, hunger eradication, and sustainable use of resources in Eastern and Central Africa, ASARECA aims to promote the generation and utilization of technologies and innovations in the sub-region. This is intended at increasing the efficiency of agricultural research in the sub-region to facilitate economic growth, food security and competitiveness through productive and sustainable agriculture. To drive the achievement of this purpose, ASARECA identified the following as strategic interventions:

  1. Strengthening of gender-responsive governance and management systems,
  2. Enhancement of the generation of demand driven agricultural technologies and innovations,
  3. Enhancement of the adoption of policy options by decision makers to improve performance of the agricultural sector,
  4. Strengthening of capacity for implementing agricultural research for development, and
  5. Enhancement of availability of information and knowledge on agricultural technologies and innovations

ASARECA LAN/WAN ENVIRONMENT

The ASARECA Secretariat operates a LAN/WAN system comprising of the following:

  1. Rack mounted servers
  2. Switches
  3. Wireless Access Points
  4. Rack Cabinets
  5. KVM Systems
  6. Power Inverters and Battery banks

The services of an ICT Support company are required to carry out software and hardware preventive maintenance on the LAN systems mentioned above.

OBJECTIVE

The overall objective of this request for services is to ensure that the ASARECA Secretariat LAN/WAN systems are well maintained in order to ensure that they perform efficiently and optimally and guarantee user satisfaction

SCOPE OF WORK:

The following maintenance services are required:

1.     Server Maintenance:

a.     Hardware Components

  • Surface Cleaning
  • Compressed air blowing
  • DVD Head Cleaning
  • Lubricating of moveable parts
  • CMOS battery testing
  • Check power protection devices
  • Check power supply fan
  • Check processor temperatures and heat sinks/fans
  • Motherboard cleaning
  • Connections and cable checks

b.     Software Components

  • Hard Disk IO Scanning
  • Virus scanning
  • Defragmenting
  • Disk space check and cleaning
  • Archive/Rotate log files
  • Application of latest OS patches and updates
  • Key application software upgrades

2.     Server and Communication Racks:

  • Surface cleaning
  • Inspection and reorganizing of cable runs
  • Check power outlets

3.     Switches:

  • Surface cleaning
  • Compressed air blowing
  • Port testing
  • Firmware upgrades
  • Patch panel cable testing

4.     Wireless APs and Routers:

  • Surface cleaning
  • Compressed air blowing
  • Port testing
  • Firmware upgrades

5.     LAN Points:

  • Check data blocks
  • Cable run testing
  • Check data rates
  • Test patch codes

6. Inverter & Batteries

Inspection of:

  • Fans
  • Internal static bypass
  • Capacity banks
  • Control wires and power connections
  • DC buss voltage
  • Battery cell condition
  • Voltage and connective resistance
